LearnGrowLoveCIC would like to share the good news that we have received funding from WMP PCC commissioner to deliver sessions for parents and young people raising awareness of Knife Crime.

Additionally we have received funding from The National Lottery Awards For All to deliver Parent Talk Sessions. The sessions look at supporting parenting, raising awareness and signposting where required. Parent Talk is open to any parent who would like to attend and organisations are welcome to contact us to arrange a small group at their venue.
LGLCIC is also grateful for the donations received via eBay shown on our impact page.

If you would like to donate to LGLCIC you can either select eBay as an option or use our donate option on our contact us page. All donations will be used towards resources, workshops , coaching.

A Message for my Granddaughter Shayla

A message for my granddaughter Shayla as you grow up

I smile when I think of you, your girly ways , artistic flair and pretty face. Add that to your numeracy and literacy skills being way past your years.

Wow you really are a fabulous little girl ...

I've known you now for nearly ten years it's a unique  kind of love you have for your grandchild.

One where the time you spend together feels special.

I have such hopes for you and my grandsons too, but you being a girl I have a different type of worry for you growing up in today's society.

This makes me feel that this message is important , and as parents or grandparents it's a message we need to start to share at a very young age.

We tend to think that young children lack the capacity to understand but as unique little individuals our messages are so important to help on the journey of growing up..

Mimi grew up not realising she could reach for the stars , not being told that gender can be a barrier so I wanted to tell you from now . I've learnt so much but often wonder how things may have been different if I knew earlier ..

I hope that you achieve all you set out to do.  I will always tell you to reach for the stars , dream big  - not be sidelined or made to feel you cannot do something because your a female.

So my little girl I will try to guide you and share with you the need to remember-

  • Not to  be held back by insecurities ....
  • Love your body and be proud of your uniqueness
  • Try different things , don't be frightened to make mistakes
  • Don't let music or media make you feel your not good enough in any way
  • Understand that No means No
  • Speak up don't stay silent because of your gender
  • Know that their are other people you can talk to like Childline
  • Be aware that as a female you will need to challenge gender stereotypes
  • Believe in yourself
  • Know that  a healthy relationship doesn't make you sad or insecure
I have started sharing my message by using the NSPCC underwear rule with my grandchildren, they know the correct names for their body parts and understand that their private parts are private.

We will talk about the suffragettes , Maya Angelou ,  fabulous women who have achieved their goals.

Why we don't need to show our body to achieve in life, to feel happy in your own skin and confident to challenge.

I look forward to watching you grow, I hope one day you realise just how special you are , not just to me ...
